Subject: Denial of State Funding to Sanctuary Cities
 
Following Governor Wolf’s decision to withhold essential coronavirus relief funds to Lebanon County for its failure to adhere to his unilateral and misguided directives, I believe it is appropriate to similarly deny state funds to municipalities that refuse to abide by federal laws, regulations and policy memoranda relating to illegal aliens. 

My legislation would impose a duty on all municipalities of this Commonwealth to comply with federal immigration detainer requests and to otherwise cooperate with federal officials in combating illegal immigration in this Commonwealth.  Any municipality that defies federal immigration laws shall be refused state funds for the fiscal year following the year in which the municipality prohibited or discouraged the enforcement of such laws.
