Subject: | Older Americans Month Resolution |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing the month of May 2019 as Older Americans Month. This year, we celebrate the theme, “Connect, Create, Contribute,” which encourages older adults and their communities to connect with friends, family, and services that support participation; create by engaging in activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment; and contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit others.
Our nation has made great strides to support older Americans as they transition into their new phase of life, and since 1963, we have honored their legacies and ongoing contributions. In Pennsylvania, during this monthly designation, we recognize the contributions made by older persons, and we pay tribute to their accomplishments within our communities.
More than ever before, older Americans are working longer, trying new things, and becoming more engaged in their communities. Our older Americans are taking charge, striving for wellness, focusing on their independence, and advocating for themselves and others. It is important that we strengthen our older Americans voices so that they can raise awareness for vital aging issues.
Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution on behalf of older citizens in this Commonwealth.
