Subject: | Resolution Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of D-Day (June 6, 2019) |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day. On June 6, 1944, Allied Forces landed along a fifty mile stretch on the coast of Normandy, France, with more than 5,000 ships, 13,000 aircraft, and 160,000 troops supporting the D-Day invasion. The cost was great, as the number of Allied soldiers killed or wounded by day’s end exceeded 9,000. The historic offensive resulted in over 100,000 troops marching to liberate Europe and end the reign of Nazi Germany. It is vital that we commemorate this day, not only for the thousands of lives lost, but also as the beginning of a strategic offensive that ultimately led to the defeat of Hitler. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution to honor and remember this important event in our nation’s history and world history. |
