Subject: | School Bus Driver Industry Analysis |
In the near future, I plan on re-introducing (HR 880) a resolution requiring the Joint State Government Commission to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the current school bus driver industry and provide recommendations as to how the Commonwealth can effectively address the shortage of school bus drivers. Across the Commonwealth, school districts and school bus companies have been struggling tremendously (even more now due to the COVID pandemic) to hire and retain a sufficient number of qualified school bus drivers. COVID has significantly impacted and changed this industry.Simply put, if a school district is not able to provide adequate transportation to and from school, then how can we as a Commonwealth ensure the quality education, we strive to offer our children is being provided? Specifically, my resolution would task the Joint State Government Commission to establish an advisory committee to provide recommendations as to how the Commonwealth can effectively address the shortage of school bus drivers. The advisory committee would be comprised of the following:
