Subject: | Ensuring Essential Health Benefits for Pennsylvanians |
Lawsuits continue to be filed challenging the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Should the law be declared unconstitutional, the consequences could be devastating. It is possible that in the future people will not be able to access the health care services that were once covered - finding themselves paying out of pocket, going into debt, or not getting the care they should. This decision could also lead to more inadequate health policies appearing on the market that provide very little coverage when someone needs it the most. We must act now and protect our state from going backwards. Therefore, we need to put the federal essential health benefits (EHB) into state law so people can’t be denied coverage for the healthcare they need. Remember, before the ACA was enacted, many policies did not include substance abuse treatment as well as maternity coverage. These ten essential health benefits include ambulatory patient services, emergency services, hospitalization, maternity and newborn care, mental health and substance abuse disorder services, including behavioral health treatment, prescription drugs, rehabilitation and habilitation services and devices and chronic disease management, pediatric services, including oral and vision care. Don’t wait - let’s move now to protect our communities with health care coverage they deserve, so they can keep their family physically and financially healthy. |
