Subject: | Videos of School Violence |
Recently, I have been alarmed at the amount of school violence reported in the media. Incidents in our schools involving deadly weapons, fights among students, and illegal drug use are all troubling, and the news reports are often accompanied by disturbing videos of the fights from students’ cell phones and other electronic devices. I believe these videos only create more problems, inciting more violence when they are shared among students. To address this issue I am introducing legislation making it unlawful to spread videos of school violence with the intent to harass or bully a student. This would only apply to videos of fights between two or more students that occur in a school setting, during school hours, or immediately before or after school hours. Please join me in co-sponsoring this school safety measure. |
