Session of 2021 - 2022 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 12, 2021 12:48 PM
From: Representative Tarah Toohil
To: All House members
Subject: Walter J. Leib Veterans Memorial Bridge

It is my intention to introduce legislation to designate a bridge, identified as Bridge Key 23851, on Pennsylvania Route 309 over the Nescopeck Creek in Butler Township, Luzerne County, as the Walter J. Leib Veterans Memorial Bridge.

SP4 Walter J. Leib was an employee of the United States Department of State, served nine years in the foreign services including at embassies in Manila, the Philippines and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He was also a veteran of the United States Army Security Agency where he served for three years. On June 27, 1972 SP4 Leib had just recently returned from foreign service and was killed in a car crash on U.S. soil shortly after his 33rd birthday.

I would like to memorialize the life of SP4 Leib for his commitment to his nation’s security and his service to our country.  This bridge will also be a tribute to all Veterans.  Please join me in honoring the life of Walter J. Leib.
