MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 27, 2021 11:03 AM
From: Representative Austin A. Davis
To: All House members
Subject: Clifton P. Pitts Memorial Highway

Clifton P. Pitts was a long-time Civil Rights leader in the Mon-Valley, where he fought for equal housing, employment and education for over 50 years. His longstanding leadership and contributions to our community helped to improve the lives of many of our most vulnerable residents.

A graduate of Duquesne Senior High School, Mr. Pitts worked as Director of Job Replacement for Allegheny County for 21 years, as well as Director of the Mon-Yough Action Program, and as Director of the Help Initiate Pride (HIP) Program. Mr. Pitts also served as President of the Duquesne-West Mifflin National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and Concerned Citizens, President of the Freshman Society Club, past President of the Wild Bunch Social Club, past President of the Western Pennsylvania Black Assembly, and as Chairman of the Mon-Valley People Action Committee. He passed away on November 23, 2020, at the age of 76.

In honor of his memory and service, I will be introducing legislation to designate a portion of Pennsylvania Route 837, also known as Duquesne Boulevard, in the City of Duquesne, Allegheny County, as the Clifton P. Pitts Memorial Highway.

Please join me in this effort to recognize the life and contributions of this remarkable leader from our community.
