MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 12, 2021 04:21 PM
From: Representative Christopher B. Quinn
To: All House members
Subject: Electronics Recycling System (Former HB179)

As you know, our electronics recycling system has not kept pace with the changing electronics consumer markets. This has left many with few options for recycling televisions and computers across the Commonwealth. In an effort to restart the conversation of addressing this issue, I will be reintroducing HB 179 from last session.

This legislation allows private contractors to bid on the collecting, transporting and recycling of excess amounts of electronic waste in each county not currently being covered by the existing system. Manufacturer requirements for collection would remain on the same market-share basis as is outlined in the current law.

Please consider co-sponsoring this legislation.

Introduced as HB1243
