Subject: | Temporary Funding for Unemployment Compensation System |
The federal government has been discussing the size and breadth of a future round of funding for states to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic effects. If that funding materializes, I believe that the Commonwealth should use that available federal money to provide a temporary boost to our Unemployment Compensation system. This temporary funding will help to alleviate the delays with the unemployment compensation system experienced by individuals who are suffering from employment or business interruptions due to COVID-19- related business closures. Under this legislation, $40 million of federal funding would be appropriated on a one-time basis from the COVID-19 Response Restricted Account for the hiring of temporary employees and expenses related to information management technology, communications technology and other infrastructure components within the Department of Labor and Industry. Please consider signing on to this important piece of legislation. |
