Subject: | COVID-19 Nonprofit Hazard Pay Grant Program |
Not every worker in the Commonwealth has the luxury of quarantining for their safety or their family’s safety. Instead, certain groups of workers stepped up and sacrificed to provide vital services across Pennsylvania to families and neighbors. These selfless workers work at food banks, provide warm beds in homeless shelters, serve the disabled, and provide additional valuable services in their work for nonprofit organizations. For this reason, we need to aid these self-sacrificing heroes, supporting them with a hazard pay grant program to compensate them for the risk they have taken on. My legislation will use funds received by the Commonwealth under the American Rescue Act to create a program paying hazard pay to those providing charitable services for a nonprofit organization during the pandemic. Like the current hazard pay program, approved employers would pay their workers $3 per hour for 10-weeks in hazard pay. These hardworking nonprofit workers have been truly tireless in their service to Pennsylvania and its citizens. Please consider co-sponsoring this bill as a vital way to stand with these workers. |
