Subject: | Rules Reform – Designation of Priority Bills |
The hardworking people of Pennsylvania send us to Harrisburg to represent their views and improve our communities. We bring great ideas with us to the State Capitol from our home districts, but far too often these ideas languish in committee and never receive a vote. This needs to change. It is time that we guarantee the people we serve a chance for their ideas to be heard. I plan to introduce a resolution changing the House Rules to accomplish this. Under this proposal, members will be able to designate one “priority bill” per session. The bill would then be guaranteed an up/down vote in committee to send it to the House Floor. The majority chairperson of a committee would be able to delay this vote for up to four additional legislative days in order to hold a public hearing. This resolution is a commonsense rule change that has been supported by Fair Districts PA. The people sent us to Harrisburg to work on their behalf. Let us get to work and guarantee that good ideas receive a vote. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
