Subject: | Expanding Health Benefits for Campus Police Officers |
In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation that expands disability benefits under the Heart and Lung Act to campus police officers employed with participating State-owned colleges and universities. The Heart and Lung Act provides wages and medical benefits to police officers and firefighters who are temporarily disabled as a result of injuries sustained in the line of duty. While campus police officers effectuate many of the same duties and responsibilities as municipal police officers, they are not presently covered by the Act. Campus police officers routinely place themselves in harm’s way to protect and serve the citizens of this Commonwealth and I believe that they should be entitled to the same medical and wage benefits afforded to other law enforcement officers throughout Pennsylvania. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to better protect and serve our Commonwealth residents. |
