MEMORANDUM

Posted: August 11, 2022 11:17 AM
From: Representative Frank Burns
To: All House members
Subject: Requiring State Jobs be Posted Publicly

State jobs are often filled before the public has an opportunity to apply. Many qualified workers are not even aware that these government positions have become available, despite these jobs being funded by Pennsylvania taxpayers. Instead, these jobs are commonly filled internally, with little transparency in the hiring process. Because of this, the taxpayers that are supporting the salaries of these state jobs do not have the opportunity to apply to them.

The public deserves a chance to apply for taxpayer-funded jobs. That is why I plan to introduce legislation that would require all state positions to be posted publicly on Pennsylvania’s state employment website. In doing so, we can ensure that these taxpayer-funded positions are staffed with the most qualified candidates.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to allow all qualified individuals a chance to apply to our important state positions.

Introduced as HB2834
