Subject: Removing an Unnecessary Abortion Requirement

While abortion care in Pennsylvania remains legal for the time being, it is not always accessible. Despite abortion being a simple and safe procedure, our statute governing abortion is rife with burdensome and unnecessary requirements. Time and money are wasted on requirements that do nothing to contribute to Patient Safety.

For example, PA law requires patients to receive unnecessary blood testing prior to a procedure. Currently only 14 states have this requirement and experts agree abortion can be safely provided without it. An in-person requirement for Rh factor testing only serves as a roadblock to patients’ ability to have an abortion, especially via telemedicine. To improve access and save patients’ money, I am introducing a bill to remove Rh factor testing prior to an abortion.

Please join me by cosponsoring legislation that will improve the Abortion Control Act to make abortion more accessible.

Introduced as HB2867
