Subject: Sgt. Walter F. Novak Bridge Designation
 
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation designating a bridge in Homer City, Indiana County, in honor of Sgt. Walter F. Novak.
 
Walter enlisted in the Army on Aug 4, 1942 and joined the 101st Airborne 506 PIR "A" Company. He participated in many military campaigns, most notably Operation Market Garden and the Battle of the Bulge. 
 
After he finished his military time, Sgt. Novak went back to work at the R&P Coal company as a shuttle car operator. He also ran for Homer City town council and was elected in 1960.
 
Sgt. Novak passed away on January 3rd 2008 at his home after a battle with lung cancer.
 
Please join me in recognizing a great veteran of the Commonwealth.
