| Subject: | Establishing a Select Committee on the 2020 Election: Protecting the institutions of government |
| During the course of the 2020 election, some elected leaders used threats, intimidation, and favor pedaling to attempt to change the course of the 2020 elections. We cannot allow this to happen again. That is why I am introducing a resolution to establish a bipartisan Select Committee on the 2020 Election to investigate, review, and make findings and recommendations concerning the actions of these public officials and changes to the Election Code that will ensure such behavior is prohibited.
In Federalist Number 43, James Madison wrote that members of political institutions have a strong interest in "insisting that the forms of government under which the compact [government] was entered into should be substantially maintained." Our institution derives its power from the people and the people decide on the composition of those that occupy the halls of government. When we forget this relationship we lose the trust and faith of the people that we represent.
It is an inalienable right of all Pennsylvanians to have a government that represents their interests and is held accountable. Please join me in protecting the will of the people by co-sponsoring this resolution. It is time that we shed light on all abuses that took place and build trust with the people we serve. |
