Subject: | Election of the President Judge |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation providing for a constitutional amendment that would change the way we elect president judges across the Commonwealth. Currently, in all courts with seven members or less, the judge that has the most seniority automatically becomes the president judge. Being the longest tenured judge does not necessarily equate to quality performance. My legislation would require the “election” of the president judge among the members of the court in all judicial districts with three or more members. This will allow for both merit and seniority to be taken into consideration, not merely seniority alone. I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this legislation. |
