Subject: | Childhood Stroke Awareness Day |
Soon, I will introduce a resolution to designate May 7th as “Childhood Stroke Awareness Day” in Pennsylvania. According to the Children’s Hemiplegia and Stroke Association (CHASA), a perinatal stroke occurs 1 in every 2,800 births. Sixty percent of children who survive a pediatric stroke will have permanent neurological problems and may require ongoing medical treatments including physical, speech, and occupational therapy. Childhood Stroke Awareness Day seeks to draw attention to the need for early diagnosis, medical research, and education so that pediatric stroke can be effectively treated, enabling more fulfilling lives for these individuals and their families. Please join me in cosponsoring this important resolution. |
