Subject: | Bridge Inspection and Maintenance |
In the near future, I will introduce legislation for a publicly accessible database for all bridges in this Commonwealth that are maintained with Federal, State, county or municipal expense. PennDOT will develop and maintain the database and be searchable and organized by county, municipality, and the department’s engineering district. The database will show the proposed schedule regarding reconstruction, maintenance or repair and estimate of the costs, if available. PennDOT shall adopt and publish standards used for the inspection of bridges, including county and municipal bridges. Bridge inspections will be completed by a certified bridge inspector. The Auditor General shall, on a quadrennial basis, inspect the records relating to each bridge in the database to determine and issue a report regarding whether: the bridge has been inspected within the time scheduled, the inspection report has been filed, and the inspection was completed by a certified bridge inspector. |
