Subject: | Children's Grief Awareness Day |
Last year, I received a letter from a young constituent of the 50th Senatorial District, Mayland Learn, which tugged at my heartstrings. Mayland was only eight years old and the 2022 USA National Miss Pennsylvania Princess when she wrote to me, and was trying to raise grief awareness for children after losing her own father. She’s a very inspired and motivated young lady who has taken an interest in politics. For Mayland, and all other children experiencing the loss of a loved one, I will be again introducing a Resolution declaring Children’s Grief Awareness Day in Pennsylvania. This year it will be observed on November 17, 2022, the Thursday before Thanksgiving, immediately preceding the winter holidays, which can be a particularly difficult time for grieving children. Children’s Grief Awareness Day was started in the Commonwealth by the Highmark Caring Place in 2008 to help others understand the impact of death on children and their need for support. Thank you for your consideration of cosponsoring this Resolution. |
