House of Representatives
Session of 2023 - 2024 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: October 10, 2023 10:12 AM
From: Representative Mary Jo Daley and Rep. Melissa L. Shusterman
To: All House members
Subject: Abortion Protections

The U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization, declaring that the U.S. Constitution confers no right to an abortion, has led to total or near total bans on abortion in many states. Nearly one in three women aged 15 to 44 live in states where abortion is banned or mostly banned. Women in these states are being denied urgent, and in some cases lifesaving, medical care.

In the near future, we plan to introduce a package of bills that would help ensure that the Commonwealth is not complicit in other states’ efforts to attack bodily autonomy. While we cannot prevent other states from criminalizing abortion, we can protect individuals seeking and providing reproductive healthcare services in Pennsylvania.

Please join us in support of these important measures.

Document #1

Introduced as HB1786
