MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 3, 2022 03:51 PM
From: Representative Russ Diamond
To: All House members
Subject: School Vaccination and Exemption Announcements

In the near future I will be introducing legislation to address a problem which became apparent over the last few years when notices regarding vaccinations for school attendance were publicly distributed without any mention of the legal exemptions for religious or medical reasons.

This has resulted in unnecessary public confusion, causing parents who previously obtained religious or other exemptions to believe such exemptions no longer apply. Our offices annually receive confused calls from these parents.

Such notices from school districts and the Department of Health often get repeated by news media, social media, and legislative updates, in many cases omitting the opportunity provided within the School Code for obtaining a religious or medical exemption.

My legislation would require the exemptions contained within the School Code to be disclosed whenever school districts or other government agencies announce vaccination requirements for school attendance.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this common sense legislation to provide full and complete disclosure of school attendance requirements to parents.

Introduced as HB431
