Subject: | Prohibiting Non-Compete Clauses for Low-Wage Workers |
Across the state, many Pennsylvanians are struggling financially as their wages stay stagnant in an inflating economy. Due to non-compete agreements, many low-wage workers are prohibited from leaving their jobs for better offers. Otherwise, if they break the agreement, they would face devastating financial penalties. They are instead contractually bound to work for less than what they are worth. This not only perpetuates poverty, but it also goes against the basic principles on which the country was founded on. My legislation would prohibit employers from entering into a non-compete agreement with low-wage workers, or include a non-compete clause in the employment contract. This would allow low-wage workers to find and accept the best offer available and make the best decisions for themselves and their families. All Pennsylvanians should have the right to decide what is best for their future. Please join me in protecting the hard-working people of this Commonwealth by co-sponsoring this bill. |
