MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 19, 2023 12:31 PM
From: Representative Thomas H. Kutz
To: All House members
Subject: Firefighter Jerome Guise Memorial Bridge

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to designate a bridge, identified as Bridge Key 13617, carrying Pennsylvania Route 34 over Mountain Creek in Mount Holly Springs Borough, Cumberland County, as the Firefighter Jerome Guise Memorial Bridge.

Jerome Guise was a firefighter with the Citizen’s Fire Company No. 1 in Mount Holly Springs, Cumberland County. He proudly served as a live-in, full-time firefighter with Citizen’s Fire Co. No. 1 for 17 years.

Over the course of his tenure with the department, he ranked as one of the most responsive firefighters, responding to nearly 150-200 fire calls per year. He was also awarded the Firefighter of the Year award in 2020 for his outstanding service.

Tragically, Jerome Guise lost his life while serving his community. On March 9, 2020, Firefighter Guise was dispatched to a house fire. He entered the home to search for survivors but was killed when the home collapsed around him.

I would like to forever memorialize Jerome Guise’s fearless commitment to his community by dedicating the bridge over Mountain Creek in Mount Holly Springs as the Firefighter Jerome Guise Memorial Bridge.

Please join me in honoring and remembering this brave and fallen community servant.

Introduced as HB702
