Subject: | Second Amendment Protection Act |
I plan to re-introduce legislation (House Bill 1696) modeled on the "Second Amendment Protection Act" as enacted by other states, including Missouri, Alaska, Tennessee, North Dakota, Texas and many others. Recent announcements and ambitions of Federal officials cast grave doubt on whether they respect the fundamental guarantees of the Second Amendment. In Pennsylvania, the right to own and defend oneself and one's family through possession of a firearm is clearly and unambiguously repeated in our own constitution, which states that "The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned." My bill will prohibit any public official or employee in Pennsylvania - whether a Federal official or employee located in Pennsylvania, or a state or local public official or employee - from acting to enforce any laws which infringe on this constitutional right. My bill will expressly reject any overreaching and illegal Federal laws, executive orders, rules or regulations, while simultaneously charging our state officials with the affirmative duty to protect the constitutional rights of our law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms. Previous co-sponsors include: OZWIAK, KAUFFMAN, COX, MILLARD, SMITH, GREINER, HAMM, RYAN, KNOWLES, ROTHMAN, BERNSTINE, JAMES, DIAMOND, DAVANZO, SCHMITT, IRVIN, STAATS, OBERLANDER, JONES, MOUL, PENNYCUICK, ROWE, STRUZZI, SAYLOR, HEFFLEY, BOROWICZ, ZIMMERMAN, KEEFER, GILLEN and FEE Please join me in sponsoring this legislation to stand up for our fundamental Second Amendment rights. |
