MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 24, 2023 02:26 PM
From: Representative Barbara Gleim
To: All House members
Subject: SFC Randall Shugart Memorial Bridge

In the near future I will be introducing legislation designating a bridge carrying Pennsylvania Route 641, over Big Spring Creek on the border of Newville Borough and West Pennsboro Township, Cumberland County, as the SFC Randall Shugart Memorial Bridge.

Sergeant First Class Randall Shugart first moved to Newville after his father left the Air Force. While attending Big Spring High School, Randall joined the U.S. Army, later graduating from Ranger school and becoming a member of the elite Delta Force unit. SFC Shugart was killed in action on October 3, 1993 in Mogadishu, Somalia as part of a rescue operation for two downed Blackhawk helicopters. For his bravery and ultimate sacrifice, SFC Shugart was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

Please join me in remembering and honoring SFC Randall Shugart.

Introduced as HB202
