Subject: | Guardianship Fee Increase |
Guardians are court-appointed individuals who preside over an incapacitated person, meaning anyone who can no longer manage themselves or their personal affairs or finances. In their role, guardians assume a spectrum of challenging tasks to appropriately address the person’s health, well-being, finances, family, and end-of-life care decisions. Currently, guardians are paid a monthly fee of $100, an amount that has not increased in the last 20 years despite the evolving tasks and increasing shortage of capable individuals to perform this essential function. For this reason, I will be introducing a resolution urging the Department of Human Services to increase the fee paid to guardians from $100 to $300 to better support the livelihoods and retention of guardians in Pennsylvania. It is imperative that as public servants, we do all that is possible to make sure guardians are appropriately compensated for the meaningful and vitally important work that they do. It is my hope that you will join me in this collective effort to advocate for guardians across this Commonwealth who work tirelessly and diligently to take care of our most vulnerable residents in Pennsylvania. |
