| Subject: | Resolution recognizing April 2023 as Donate Life Month in Pennsylvania |
| Today, more than 7,000 men, women and children are on waiting lists for organ transplants. Organ and tissue donation provides life-saving and life-enhancing opportunities for many Pennsylvanians, giving these people a second chance at life. It is essential that all citizens are aware of the opportunity to save and heal the lives of others. One organ donor may save up to eight lives, restore sight to two people and heal the lives of 75 others. In 2022, 756 generous donors from Pennsylvania gave the gift of life, and nearly half of all Pennsylvanians are registered as organ, tissue and cornea donors. I am introducing a resolution to recognize April 2023 as Donate a Life Month in Pennsylvania. Through this recognition, not only will we recognize and honor those who have chosen to donate, but we will celebrate the lives of the recipients and increase public awareness of the importance of becoming an organ donor.
