Subject: | Cholesterol Education Month and Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Awareness Day |
High cholesterol is the chronic presence of high levels of cholesterol in the blood that can lead to cardiovascular disease (CVD). 7.9% of Pennsylvania adults were diagnosed with CVD in 2021 and 36.6% of Pennsylvanians were diagnosed with elevated cholesterol levels. A notable risk factor for CVD that can be treated is the presence of Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL-C). CVD when left untreated can lead to dire health consequences including heart attacks and strokes. It is vitally important that we draw attention to this issue so Pennsylvanians may know the risk factors and outcomes of CVD. This resolution will recognize September 2023 as Cholesterol Education Month and September 1, 2023, as Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Awareness Day. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution to raise awareness of this important public health problem. |
