Subject: | Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Month Resolution |
Approximately 21 million patients have been diagnosed with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and are at risk for a cardiovascular event such as a stroke or heart attack. Approximately 931,400 adults in Pennsylvania have been told by a health professional that have angina, stroke, heart attack or coronary heart disease - which are manifestations of ASCVD. Pennsylvania spends annually approximately $5.5 billion on combating ASCVD. Perhaps most concerning and telling us that cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in the United States today. Combating cardiovascular disease begins with education about the disease and then efforts as simple as screening for the disease so that treatments to reduce low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) can be deployed will improve health care outcomes and benefit all of our communities. To begin to educate our communities on the importance of addressing the realities of this disease, we need to recognize the importance of the current data. So to recognize the importance of the data and the very real need to fight ASCVD, please join my colleague, Representative Ann Flood and I in recognizing June as Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Month. Thank you! |
