Subject: | Resolution recognizing the long-standing friendship between Pennsylvania and Taiwan |
We will soon be introducing legislation recognizing the long-standing and mutually beneficial friendship between the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Republic of China (ROC), commonly known as Taiwan, and supporting the signing of a bilateral trade agreement between the United States and the ROC. Taiwan is a vibrant democratic society and a crucial part of the United States' security network in the Western Pacific. Taiwan also maintains an advanced economy with critical industrial production capacity, particularly of sophisticated electronics components, as well as offering a strong consumer market with substantial demand for exports from Pennsylvania. The United States has long maintained a supportive relationship with Taiwan, including decades of cooperation between the U.S. Military and the ROC Armed Forces. There is also an ongoing effort to negotiate and enact an expanded trade agreement between the U.S. and Taiwan. The Commonwealth and the House of Representatives should recognize and applaud these efforts, in the hopes of a continued deepening of the friendship, as well as the economic and strategic partnership, between the United States, Pennsylvania, and Taiwan. Please join us in cosponsoring this legislation and send a strong message of bipartisan support on this critical international issue. |
