| Subject: | Preserved Open Space Protection Act |
| In the near future, I plan on introducing legislation to amend the Open Space Act to clarify how local governments can use land that is currently being preserved. In my district, a local government wants to take a section of a preserved space and build their new municipal building on it. Many of my constituents do not believe that this is the proper use of land preserved for open space and I agree. Therefore, I am going to be introducing legislation that amends the Open Space Act to restrict a municipality’s ability to convert land that is currently marked for open space, unless they get approval from the township residents through a referendum. Because I do not want to see other townships across the Commonwealth face this same issue, the amended language will help protect the original intent of the Open Space Act and the taxpayer dollars that were used to preserve the land. Please consider cosponsoring this important piece of legislation. |
