Subject: Recognizing September 18-24, 2023 as "Opioid and Heroin Epidemic Awareness Week" in PA
 
Please join us in co-sponsoring a resolution to recognize the week of September 18 through September 24 as Opioid and Heroin Epidemic Awareness Week in Pennsylvania.

No community in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has been untouched by the opioid and heroin epidemic.  Nearly every family knows someone who has been struggling with addiction to substances like opioids, heroin, fentanyl and xylazine. 

While policymakers have been working to enact policies to address the epidemic, progress has not been as quick as one might hope. Last year alone, there were 4,703 overdoses in this Commonwealth.

Because awareness of the issue is key to helping to reverse the trend, we will soon be introducing a resolution to declare the week of September 18 through 24 as “Opioid and Heroin Epidemic Awareness Week.” I hope you will join us in sponsoring this important legislation.
