Subject: | International Women's Day - March 8, 2024 |
In the very near future, we plan to introduce a resolution recognizing March 8, 2024, as “International Women’s Day” in Pennsylvania. “International Women’s Day” was first celebrated in 1911. Annually on March 8th, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements during “International Women’s Day.” A global web of rich and diverse local activity connects women from all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities and networking events to local women's craft markets, theatric performances, fashion parades, and more. Seven years ago on “International Women’s Day,” the “Fearless Girl” statue debuted in downtown Manhattan, across from the famous "Charging Bull" statue. The plaque below the statue stated: "Know the power of women in leadership. She makes a difference.” “International Women’s Day” is an ideal day to celebrate the achievements of women across the Commonwealth and specifically the record number of women serving in the Pennsylvania House and Senate, as well the first female Speaker of the House and President Pro Tempore of the Senate. We hope that you will join us to honor women across Pennsylvania and the world. |
