MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 14, 2024 12:13 PM
From: Representative Paul Takac
To: All House members
Subject: Conveyance of Historic Curtin Village

The Eagle Iron Works in Centre County and the accompanying Curtin Village are foundational components of Pennsylvania’s industrial history. Not only did the iron works serve as the longest-operating iron furnace in the leading iron manufacturing region of the mid 1800s, but it employed as many as 200 full- and part-time workers in the 1830s.

Curtin Village was home base to its employees and home to founder Roland Curtin and his family for decades. For more than half a century, the Roland Curtin Foundation for the Preservation of Eagle Furnace has preserved the structures and collections of Eagle Iron Works and Curtain Village. To support its mission, I will be introducing legislation to convey the buildings, structures, and improvements of the historic Curtin Village to the foundation.

As a part of Pennsylvania’s long history as a leader in industrial development, the Eagle Iron Works and Curtin Village are of regional, state, and national significance. Please join me in ensuring their preservation for generations to come by signing on to this legislation.
