Subject: | Encouraging Point of Sale (POS) Tech Updates in Medical Marijuana Facilities |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution urging the Pennsylvania Department of Health to examine the Medical Marijuana Program’s lack of an Application Programming Interface, commonly referred to as an API, that would allow for a more seamless transfer of data for tracking marijuana purchases. Without this, it takes additional burdensome steps to transfer sales data, and during periods of state-wide system blackouts (which occur more than expected), leads to the inability for dispensaries to distribute product, cutting of patients from treatment. Pennsylvania’s Medical Marijuana Program is the only marijuana/cannabis program in the nation that lacks an operable API. This creates permanent operational inefficiencies that impact patients and increases the cost of doing business. This level of ineffectiveness needs addressed and the simple technology for this fix to be implemented. My resolution directs the Department of Health to examine this deficiency and additionally encourages the Department to examine why system-wide blackouts are occurring at the rate they are with their seed-to-sale vendor. I respectfully request your support for this resolution. |
