MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 26, 2024 04:32 PM
From: Representative Brian Munroe and Rep. Steven R. Malagari
To: All House members
Subject: Designating August 4, 2024, as “BAPS Day”

Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha (BAPS) is a worldwide organization whose members follow the teachings of the Hindu deity Bhagwan Swaminarayan. BAPS members in North America display their values of family, service, culture, spirituality, and youth development.

On August 4, 1974, Pramukh Swami Maharaj established the first BAPS template in the United States, located in New York. Over the past 50 years, BAPS North America has only grown in its impact since. Through BAPS Charities, members serve their communities through educational, health and wellness, humanitarian, environmental, and community outreach efforts. Members also believe that peaceful coexistence requires dialogue among leaders of other cultures, religions, and civic bodies. Further, as an organization granted General Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, BAPS takes a role in formal United Nations deliberations. In recognition of these contributions and achievements, we are introducing a resolution designating August 4, 2024, as “BAPS Day” in Pennsylvania.

BAPS North America, which includes eight temples located in Pennsylvania, is integral to the social fabric of our communities. Please join us in celebrating BAPS North America and its 50 years of service in the United States by signing on to this proposal.
