MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 21, 2024 02:43 PM
From: Representative Tim Brennan and Rep. Joe Webster, Rep. Steven R. Malagari, Rep. Shelby Labs, Rep. Brian Munroe
To: All House members
Subject: Donald E. Parlee Memorial Bridge

Donald E. Parlee, M.D. of Doylestown, Bucks County, was a leader in our community who devoted his life to the betterment of society through service. Born in Philadelphia, he earned degrees from Ursinus College and Temple University School of Medicine before becoming a board-certified radiologist at Doylestown Hospital.

Over the course of his 43-year medical career, he served as the chief of the hospital’s radiology department for 25 years, helped to grow the department from one physician to 20 radiologists, and established the hospital’s School of Radiologic Technology.

Dr. Parlee was involved in many philanthropic endeavors, including those benefiting Doylestown Hospital, Ursinus College, Bucks County Audubon Society, Bowman’s Hill Wildlife Preserve and the Peace Valley Nature Center. He also held leadership roles with the Bucks County Medical Society, the Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the Ursinus Board of Trustees, and the Ursinus Alumni Association.

He earned a Bronze Star for serving our country for the United States Army in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968, including during the Tet Offensive. At one point, he was the most senior radiologist in Vietnam and trained other radiologists throughout the country.

Sadly, Dr. Parlee passed away at 89 years of age on March 21, 2024. In honor of his memory and the considerable impact he left on our community through his service and philanthropy, I will soon introduce legislation designating a bridge in Doylestown, immediately adjacent to the hospital where he spent his medical career, as the Donald E. Parlee Memorial Bridge.

I hope you will join us in this effort to memorialize Dr. Parlee and his extraordinary legacy.

Introduced as HB2367
