MEMORANDUM

Subject: Park and Recreation Professionals Day on July 19, 2024

Spending time in a park provides a variety of physical and mental health benefits, including opportunities to exercise, play sports, hike, or swim. Doing an activity or simply strolling in nature’s calm serenity also increases cognitive performance and well-being by alleviating illnesses like depression, attention deficit disorders, and Alzheimer's disease. Parks also provide environmental programs for everyone to learn about and appreciate nature.

These healthy and educational benefits would be impossible without the hard work, dedication, and leadership of the professionals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to provide the high-quality programs and facilities we desire and expect in our parks and public spaces. This is an important reason why I am introducing a resolution to designate July 19, 2024, as “Park and Recreation Professionals Day”.

Park and Recreation Professionals Day is an opportunity to recognize the skilled work of park and recreation professionals to strengthen community connections, connect people with nature, and provide environmental sustainability. Please join me in supporting this resolution to designate July 19, 2024, as “Park and Recreation Professionals Day” in Pennsylvania.
