MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 12, 2024 04:04 PM
From: Representative Marla Brown
To: All House members
Subject: Recognizing October 17, 2024 as "Chuck Tanner Day"

In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating October 17, 2024, as “Chuck Tanner Day” in Pennsylvania.

Charles William “Chuck” Tanner was born on July 4, 1928, in New Castle Pennsylvania.

Chuck Tanner was an American professional baseball player and manager.  He appeared in 396 games between 1966 and 1962 playing for the Milwaukee Braves, Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians and Lost Angeles Angels.  While playing for the Braves, Tanner hit a home run off the first pitch in his first career at bat.  Tanner batted .261 with 21 career home runs.

Following Chuck Tanner’s career playing professional baseball, he was a manager for 19 seasons where he led the Pittsburgh Pirates to a World Series Championship on October 17, 1979.

Chuck Tanner is remembered for his impressive baseball career as well as his unwavering confidence and infectious optimism.

Please join me recognizing the life and accomplishments of Pennsylvania native, Chuck Tanner.
