Subject: | Designating June 30 as "Mayor Elizabeth 'Libby' White Day" in Pennsylvania |
With a background in music and education, Elizabeth “Libby” White was Doylestown’s first female mayor and an example to all residents of Bucks County. Born to a military family on June 30, 1935, Libby moved often, including living abroad in Tokyo, Japan. After eventually moving to Doylestown, she became a beloved community leader working each and every day to better the place she called home. During her tenure as Mayor of Doylestown, Libby was instrumental in several initiatives, including creating the Doylestown Borough Commission for All Ages to facilitate inter-generational interactions and the “Clean and Green” project to make Doylestown a greener and better place to live. One of her most significant achievements was her work to form the Central Bucks Regional Police Department, a model of good government and intermunicipal cooperation. Libby passed away on her 87th birthday on June 30, 2022, and she was recently honored with a monument at Doylestown’s Broad Commons Park, located next to the regional police headquarters that she worked so hard to see come to fruition. To honor this beloved figure, I am introducing a resolution to designate June 30, 2024, as “Mayor Elizabeth ‘Libby’ White Day” in Pennsylvania. Libby was a trailblazing mayor who left a profound impact on Doylestown and Bucks County as a whole, while acting with grace, perseverance and kindness. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution to celebrate and honor Elizabeth “Libby” White. |
