Subject: | Recognizing October 29, 2024 as World Stroke Day |
I will soon be introducing a Resolution to recognize October 29, 2024, as World Stroke Day in Pennsylvania. According to the American Stroke Association, a stroke is a disease that affects the arteries leading to and within the brain. Strokes are the fifth leading cause of death and the leading cause of disability in the United States. Every 40 seconds, someone in the United States has a stroke and every four minutes, someone dies of stroke. The signs of a stroke include drooping of the face, sudden arm weakness, speech difficulty, vision problems, trouble walking, and severe headache with no known cause. Immediate medical care for a stroke greatly improves outcomes because nearly 2 million brain cells die every minute a stroke goes untreated. Please join me in cosponsoring this Resolution to help raise awareness of strokes and stroke prevention in Pennsylvania. |
