           GRUITZA, CALTAGIRONE, TIGUE, BLAUM, BELFANTI, WILSON,
           HECKLER, PHILLIPS, HASAY, G. SNYDER, DISTLER, BARLEY,
           SCHULER, SCHEETZ, JACKSON, JADLOWIEC, MERRY, BLACK, ROBBINS,
           ANGSTADT, SEMMEL, MOEHLMANN, ARGALL, RUDY AND ALLEN,

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, FEBRUARY 14, 1989

                                     AN ACT

     1  Proclaiming March 1 as Saint David's Day to be observed
     2     throughout this Commonwealth.

     3     WHEREAS, During the 19th Century, large numbers of people
     4  from Wales settled in Pennsylvania seeking employment in every
     5  field of industry and commerce; and
     6     WHEREAS, Today millions of Americans proudly proclaim their
     7  Welsh descent; and
     8     WHEREAS, The traditions and heritage of the Welsh have
     9  enriched the culture and fabric of our society; and
    10     WHEREAS, Thomas Jefferson, Robert Morris, John Marshall,
    11  James Monroe, Abraham Lincoln and Calvin Coolidge, among other
    12  men of note, are all of Welsh descent; and
    13     WHEREAS, March 1 is traditionally observed by Welshmen as
    14  Saint David's Day to mark the life of Saint David, the patron
    15  Saint of Wales; therefore be it


     1     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives proclaim March 1
     2  as Saint David's Day to be observed throughout this
     3  Commonwealth.
