A RESOLUTION 1 Declaring the week of February 11 through 17, 2001, as "Child 2 Passenger Safety Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Despite ongoing efforts to better protect child 4 passengers in cars, motor vehicle crashes remain the leading 5 cause of unintentional injury-related death among children 14 6 years of age and younger; and 7 WHEREAS, Each year motor vehicle crashes claim nearly 1,800 8 child passenger lives and result in more than 274,000 child 9 passenger injuries; and 10 WHEREAS, As many as 30% of the children in the United States 11 continue to ride completely unrestrained, and of those who are 12 buckled up, four out of five children are improperly secured; 13 and 14 WHEREAS, Child safety seats and safety belts when used 15 correctly and consistently are extremely effective in saving 16 lives and preventing injuries; and 17 WHEREAS, It is known that occupant protection laws that are
1 consistently enforced are one of the best ways to prevent 2 injuries and save children's lives; and 3 WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania SAFE KIDS Coalition has planned 4 community-based child passenger safety events and activities in 5 an effort to educate families about child occupant protection; 6 therefore be it 7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the week 8 of February 11 through 17, 2001, as "Child Passenger Safety 9 Week" in Pennsylvania and express appreciation to the 10 Pennsylvania SAFE KIDS Coalition for its efforts to protect 11 child passengers on the occasion of "Child Passenger Safety 12 Week" in 2001.
