A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Urging the President and Congress of the United States to take
immediate action to preserve the underwater graves of
servicepersons who died defending this nation.
WHEREAS, The underwater graves of dead servicepersons from
various nations are being disturbed, destroyed and removed by
illegal salvaging operations; and
WHEREAS, The looting of sunken warships from the United
States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Australia and Japan
in the waters of southeast Asia is ongoing; and
WHEREAS, These sunken warships are being blown up and cut
apart for scrap metal by large ships with giant cranes and grab
dredgers without regard for the human remains of the dead
servicepersons who occupied the warships; and
WHEREAS, Naval shipwrecks are the property of nations and
protected under international law; and
WHEREAS, Our nation has a solemn obligation to protect the
final resting place of the servicepersons who died defending
