INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, FEBRUARY 14, 2001
A RESOLUTION 1 Designating July 22, 2001, as "Parents' Day" in Pennsylvania. 2 WHEREAS, No job presents greater challenges, demands broader 3 responsibilities or promises more profound rewards than 4 parenthood; and 5 WHEREAS, Parents are daily caretakers and lifelong role 6 models who guide us and share the values and lessons that enable 7 us to grow and flourish; and 8 WHEREAS, Our nation has always depended on strong families 9 and we must continue to do all we can to help hardworking men 10 and women shoulder the duties of parenthood; and 11 WHEREAS, It is vital to support today's parents, to honor
1 those who have taught us so much and to impress upon young 2 people the awesome responsibility of parenthood; and 3 WHEREAS, It is appropriate to celebrate the special, enduring 4 bond between parents and children, including foster parents and 5 stepparents and biological and adoptive mothers and fathers, all 6 of whom deserve our respect and gratitude; and 7 WHEREAS, On October 14, 1994, the President of the United 8 States approved Joint Resolution 398, which passed unanimously 9 in the Congress of the United States and which established the 10 fourth Sunday in July of each year as "Parents' Day" to be 11 recognized as a recurring, perennial day of commemoration in the 12 United States; and 13 WHEREAS, Since that date, many national and state leaders 14 have commemorated the fourth Sunday in July as "Parents' Day"; 15 therefore be it 16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate July 17 22, 2001, as "Parents' Day" in Pennsylvania.
