        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           FEBRUARY 20, 2001

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring the week of March 12 through 16, 2001, as "Women and
     2     Addictions Awareness Week."

     3     WHEREAS, "Women and Addictions Awareness Week" was
     4  established to highlight the special issues faced by women who
     5  struggle with dependence issues, such as those related to eating
     6  disorders, relationships, spending, alcohol and tobacco or drug
     7  abuse; and
     8     WHEREAS, Many of these adversities can be hidden from view by
     9  shame, inattention or ignorance; and
    10     WHEREAS, "Women and Addictions Awareness Week" strives to
    11  send a clear message to all segments of our community that, with
    12  the removal of these barriers and with appropriate treatment and
    13  support, women can and do recover; and
    14     WHEREAS, As a prevention campaign, the focus of "Women and

     1  Addictions Awareness Week" is to provide information and
     2  education to avoid potential problems by learning about
     3  alternative choices; and
     4     WHEREAS, "Women and Addictions Awareness Week" offers support
     5  for individuals who find themselves experiencing a concern about
     6  their own or a loved one's dependency issues; and
     7     WHEREAS, "Women and Addictions Awareness Week" is held during
     8  the third week of March; therefore be it
     9     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the week
    10  of March 12 through 16, 2001, as "Women and Addictions Awareness
    11  Week" in this Commonwealth.
