        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 11, 1997

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring the month of March 1997 as "Pennsylvania Arts in
     2     Education Month" and March 11, 1997, as "Arts in Education
     3     Day."

     4     WHEREAS, The arts influence so many aspects of our lives,
     5  including education, business, the economy, social problem-
     6  solving and community livability; and
     7     WHEREAS, The arts move us to discover the full capacity of
     8  our human creativity; and
     9     WHEREAS, The arts allow us to communicate our thoughts,
    10  emotions and beliefs in a safe and productive manner; and
    11     WHEREAS, Art is an expression of our individualism, our
    12  cultures and our communities and display our perspectives on how
    13  we see life; and
    14     WHEREAS, We depend on the arts to transcend cultural barriers
    15  and remind us of the mosaic society in which we live; and
    16     WHEREAS, It is important that our youth, of all ages, be
    17  encouraged to explore their creative abilities; and
    18     WHEREAS, With proper instruction and enthusiasm, our children


     1  can find joy and self-worth in the expression of their artistic
     2  interests; and
     3     WHEREAS, The arts allow students to examine and appreciate
     4  art of their own culture and those of others; and
     5     WHEREAS, Education of our children is the foundation of our
     6  Commonwealth; and
     7     WHEREAS, Arts educators and artists in education foster
     8  knowledge and awareness of the importance of the arts to all of
     9  our lives; and
    10     WHEREAS, Arts in our education invite our citizens, of all
    11  walks of life, to explore their artistic interests; and
    12     WHEREAS, Arts educators and artists in education, of all
    13  disciplines, contribute to the values and principles of our
    14  Commonwealth through their use of the arts; therefore be it
    15     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare March
    16  1997 as "Pennsylvania Arts in Education Month" and March 11,
    17  1997, as "Pennsylvania Arts in Education Day"; and be it further
    18     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend school
    19  art educators and artists in education, and thank them for their
    20  service to our children and to our Commonwealth.
