A RESOLUTION 1 Memorializing Congress to initiate an investigation of the 2 financial practices of US Airways. 3 WHEREAS, US Airways has recently filed for Federal bankruptcy 4 protection under Chapter 11; and 5 WHEREAS, US Airways has reported losses of more than $2 6 billion in 2001; and 7 WHEREAS, US Airways has demanded salary and benefit 8 concessions of $900 million from all of its employees; and 9 WHEREAS, US Airways, a major airline company in this 10 Commonwealth, has announced layoffs of approximately 20,000 11 employees; and 12 WHEREAS, US Airways is a major employer in the Pittsburgh 13 region, and its layoffs will have a profound effect on the 14 economy of that region as well as the Commonwealth of 15 Pennsylvania; therefore be it 16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives memorialize the
1 Congress of the United States to initiate investigations into 2 the financial practices of US Airways to ensure that during its 3 reorganization period the company's assets are being managed 4 appropriately and that any Federal financial assistance US 5 Airways receives is being used in the best interests of the 6 company, its stockholders, its employees and the public; and be 7 it further 8 RESOLVED, That the Chief Clerk transmit copies of this 9 resolution to the presiding officers of each house of Congress 10 and to each member of Congress from Pennsylvania.
